The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment in New Zealand has forecast employment across sectors and regions will to grow by 2.0 per cent, or 152,000 over the next three years to March 2020.
Highly-skilled occupations will grow by 94,000, with lower-skilled occupations rising by 40,000. The employment growth in highly-skilled occupations (2.9 per cent) is forecast to be greater than the overall rate of growth in employment. Construction and business services sectors will continue to boost employment, adding nearly 56,000 workers over the next 2-3 years.
All regions are forecast to grow over the next three years with the strongest growth will be in the Tasman and Marlborough regions. The unemployment rate is forecast to remain at or below five per cent in the March quarters of the forecast period.
