MTR has been named as the most attractive employer in Hong Kong at the Randstad Employer Brand Award 2017.

The overall results were:

1: MTR

2: Swire Properties

3: CLP Power

MTR took the title as Hong Kong’s most attractive employer after coming in second place in 2016. This was the first time MTR took the top position since its win at the inaugural Randstad Employer Brand Award in 2013. Runner up Swire Properties also emerged back into top three since 2013 when it also came in 2nd place

“We are incredibly proud that our company has been recognised as one of Hong Kong’s most attractive employers,” said Alison Wong, general manager - human resources at MTR. “The results echo our own Staff Engagement Survey which has shown that our employees consider MTR to be a good employer with a vast majority saying they are proud to be an MTR staff member. Our company has been built on our values of excellent service, mutual respect, value creation and enterprising spirit. We believe 'People Make a Difference' and we are committed to Inspire, Engage and Develop our Staff. We are glad to say that the findings of Randstad Employer Brand Research will help us to continue to strive for further excellence in our business and enhance our attractiveness as an employer.”

While the Randstad Employer Brand Award celebrates its fifth year in Hong Kong, 2017 also marks another achievement. For five consecutive years, Hong Kong organisations have occupied the Top three ranks, highlighting the high level of employer branding employed by local organisations.

Three other Sector Awards have also been given out – with this year’s spotlight on the most attractive employers within the Banking & Financial Services, Luxury & Retail and Information Technology sectors. New entrant into the Top 75, Kering, came in strong with a Top 20 placement and winning the Luxury & Retail category. Goldman Sachs jumped from 18th position in 2016 to 11th to win the Banking & Financial Services category this year. IBM’s consistent performance in employer branding saw it move up one position to 13th most attractive employer to take the win in the hotly contested Information Technology sector.

Natellie Sun, Managing Director of Randstad Hong Kong said, "2017 marks a major milestone for the Randstad Employer Brand Research and Awards. For five consecutive years, Randstad’s research has been helping and recognising businesses within Hong Kong nurture their employer brands in a strategic manner to help them attract the best talent to their organisations with in-depth insights. It’s also incredible to see local organisations taking the top three positions over the past five years, showcasing that local businesses here truly understand the power of employing an effective employer brand to beat their competitors, even if they may be big global brands.”

The Randstad Employer Brand Award, previously known as the Randstad Awards, is presented each year to the most attractive employer in 26 countries across the globe. It is based on the outcome of one of the world’s most representative and inclusive research into employer branding, covering over 160,000 global respondents.

The 75 largest companies are selected in each participating country, usually with more than 1,000 employees. This list is presented to a representative cross section of relevant respondents based on region, age, education and gender. In Hong Kong, over 5,000 employees and job-seekers between the ages of 18-65 were surveyed.
